TIME for school

What joy it feels to get the school year started! The excitement and anticipation is large in everyone’s eyes. We are so happy to reunite with friends and see how everyone has grown.

At the start of the year, we would like to remind everyone again of the importance of the whole school day. Our building opens its doors at 8:00. When the 8:30 bell rings, our day begins with teaching and learning. Students who are able to get to school before that 8:30 bell have the opportunity to settle in, ask those individual questions to their teacher, catch breakfast, and really turn into their day. In an effort to again emphasize the importance of a full learning day,we would like to encourage all families to make every effort to be punctual.

In continuing in that effort, we will be starting our JYJ News at 8:20. Note this new time for our news show. Check out our great new TV screen in the lobby thanks to a PTA grant. It is our hope that with its new location, even more families will have access to seeing and hearing our great newscast.

Please also remember that the end of our day runs right up to 3:00. Please make every effort to make appointments for after these school hours.

Having this full day allows our students and teachers the time to learn and grow. Students have a complete start and full end if they are here.

We look forward to a year of growing and learning and we thank all of our families for their support.

Hooray! A New Year!

Our doors opened last night and the children’s voice rang, “HOORAY!”

Now that is the way to welcome everyone back! That is the energy we have been waiting and working for all week. Staff officially came back this past Friday. And on Monday we met together for our first official session together. It was a reflective time together as we truly reminded ourselves of what calls us back into the building each day. And sure enough, those happy voices we heard last night were the essential element of our work as educators.

Welcome back to a new school year! We will embark on our 60th school year at Joyner. We have so many new ideas to try. We have great traditions we will maintain. And we all continue to learn and support each other this year.

One of my goals this year is to continue to highlight all the great I see each day in classrooms. My blog will still hopefully capture my thoughts, reflections and reactions to what I see each day. I will also begin to use Twitter to send snapshots that I see. I want to help create a picture of what teaching and learning looks like at Joyner. I am proud of the teachers in this building. I am proud of what they do every day for children and their families.

Let’s begin. Let’s work together to create this world that is Joyner and beyond.
